Volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajäkull on Iceland
Many staff members of Jena-Geos®-Ingenieurbüro GmbH are walking on the footsteps of Geology during there leisure time.
Already in the year 2001 two teams of the company documented the Vulcano eruption of Ätna. Nobody was surprised that the area manager, Mr Jörg Schmidt wanted to observe the current volcano at close range.
The eruption started at 20th of March 2010 around Midnight at the pass Fimmvörðuháls. That is situated between the glacier Eyjafjallajökull and glacier Mýrdalsjökull. It is the youngest Eruption of a fissure vent.
Spontanously Mr Schmidt booked a flight, a Hotel, a car and a snowmobile. Finally at 29th of March 2010 he was standing at the Eruption area.
The following fotographs are taken by him and his daughter.
