Wine Trip JENA-GEOS® on June 5th, 2010

Our annual company trip was clearly defined by sunshine and wine. After everybody’s arrival in Bad Kösen we walked along Kleine Saale to the Zisterzian monastery Pforta in Schulpforte, where wine growing originated in the Saale-Unstrut-region. After getting in the right mood with local white wine and pretzels we had a guided tour through the former monastery which is now a school run by the federal state of Saxonia-Anhalt. Well-fed from having lunch in a restaurant called “Fischhaus”, we continued walking along the river Saale through the picturesque wine yards of the most Northern wine growing area in the world. Along the way we took advantage of another wine session and our colleague Christoph Scheibert, the owner of a wine yard, told us something interesting about wine growing in this region. Eventually we arrived at our last aim – wine yard Lützkendorf in Bad Kösen, where we tasted no less than six wines under expert guidance. In the evening we left for Jena being in good spirits. All in all it was an enjoyable and successful excursion.
